We designed a timeline for Crowdys Hill School in Swindon.
Crowdys Hill School is a special educational needs school in Swindon. The school’s motto is ‘Learning for Life’ and they offer pupils an education that allows then to access all activities, participate fully in school life, and achieve their goals.
We transformed the school hall with a colourful history timeline. A photo of the local area blends into the colourful timeline to create a visually stunning effect. The colour palette offers a mix of colours to ensure the right level of stimulation for SEN pupils.
It’s a sensory-friendly design with learning at its heart. We loved creating this vibrant design for the school hall. As a large area, this bespoke Wall Art design will last many years and requires zero maintenance or upkeep. So it’s a cost effective solution for the school too.

At Crowdys Hill, staff are committed to creating a safe, happy, and nurturing environment where children feel confident to explore, learn, and grow.
The school’s vision, “Learning for Life”, underpins all that they do. So, naturally, they have high expectations for every child. The school offers a broad, engaging curriculum that develops knowledge, creativity, resilience, and a love of learning.
With all this in mind, the school approached us to create a SEN-friendly design for their school hall. The design needed to appeal to pupils with a variety of special educational needs. So it should be vibrant and interesting, without over-stimulating the senses. We designed this colourful history timeline and included large images and text so it caters to pupils with mixed learning abilities.
Learning for Life
The school’s motto is ‘Learning for Life’, so learning was at the heart of this design. We tailored the content to the school’s curriculum and highlighted key events and dates that pupils need to know.
The images increase understanding and allow pupils to move alongside the design and learn at their own pace, in the style that suits them best. We really enjoyed creating this colourful timeline for the school.
Our process
To begin, we visited Crowdys Hill to understand their needs, goals and preferences for the project. The school hall offered lots of wall space, which was perfect for Wall Art.
We walked around the hall to get a feel for the space, and discussed what the team wanted to achieve with their designs. Then, we put together a quote based on the scope of work required. From there, we guided the school through our bespoke design process, offering unlimited amends to their artwork as is our standard practice for all projects. Once the school was happy with the designs (after a couple of small iterations) we finalised the artwork so it was ready to print.
Crucially, we print all Wall Art on premium, industrial grade materials. So it’s highly durable and designed to last many years.
The big reveal
We were delighted to hear from the school that pupils and teachers love their new timeline! The timeline and brought life and dynamism to the school hall and there’s now plenty for pupils to see when they visit the hall.
Timelines are a powerful learning aid so we’re confident the design will support learning too. Pupils can engage with the content whenever they wish, and during assemblies and events in the school hall, there is plenty of visual interest to keep pupils calm and grounded.
